Pierre Bergounioux, born in 1976

I am a theologian. Trained in philosophy, linguistics, and Protestant theology, I am drawn to the places where something resists—where faith is neither obvious nor necessarily serene. My work today focuses on how biblical narratives resonate within dominated bodies, social margins, and languages that are no longer heard.
My theology seeks to think of the Word as a structuring power of reality, in its deep connections with human language—a language that is fragile, vulnerable, yet still capable of opening new meaning.

My reflection is grounded in the notions of incarnation and reality, in the life and history of the margins, where God is also presence, challenge, and call. It particularly engages with an exploration of discursive margins—popular orality, minoritized narratives—at the intersection of Subaltern Studies and critical language theories, with close attention to their effects on the construction of prestige, power, and perceived value, in a world marked by cultural apocalypses (Ernesto De Martino).

I preach for those who do not have the time to study theology yet are often more theologians than they realize.
